Public hospitals are independent entities operating under the Health Service Act (Vic) 1988 and are integral to the Victorian health system. The board is accountable to the Minister of the day for the delivery of health care to a high quality, safe and in a cost effective way.
About the role
The Minister for Health is pleased to invite applications for part time board director positions. The positions start on 1 July 2024 and appointments are for a period of up to three years.
These positions provide an exciting opportunity for Victorians to contribute to the health and wellbeing of our communities. Applicants are selected for their capabilities, including personal and professional attributes, experience, knowledge, and skills that contribute to the strategic leadership and oversight of health care for the Victorian community.
Directors are required to attend a monthly board meeting of approximately 1.5 – 2.5 hours duration. The board meets on the third Monday of the month at 6:00pm. Directors are also required to participate in board subcommittees and be available for other events requiring board representation.
The role of the board includes:
- setting the vision and strategy, in line with government priorities
- having ultimate accountability for the delivery of safe and quality care, including cultural safety and freedom from discrimination, harassment and bullying
- oversight of the performance and delivery of key policy priorities
- ensuring the ongoing financial viability of the organisation
- recruitment, support and monitoring of the Chief Executive Officer

Nurse Practitioner Candidate
Apollo Bay – Part Time (0.8 FTE)
GORH Apollo Bay are seeking a Nurse Practitioner Candidate for our Urgent Care Department. The successful candidate will receive 300 hours of paid supernumerary practice as part of the “Making it Free to Study Nursing and Midwifery Initiative.” Supervision for this role will be provided from experienced Nurse Practitioners within our rural Urgent Care Unit.
Essential requirements include:
- Registered Nurse Division One holding a current registration with AHPRA
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with demonstrated experience in consulting, liaising and negotiating within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
- Demonstrated clinical lead experience
- Flexibility for After-Hours rostered and on call work.
- Be considered a domestic student for university application purposes, that is:
- An Australian citizen
- A New Zealand citizen (or dual citizenship holders of either Australia or New Zealand)
- An Australian permanent resident; or
- An Australian permanent humanitarian visa holder
- Be directly employed by an eligible Victorian Public Health service during the period of candidate support package
- Successfully apply for an appropriate Nurse Practitioner program of study
- Enrol in Semester 2, 2023 or in Semester 1, 2024 in an eligible Nurse Practitioner program that leads to a tertiary qualification that enables endorsement as a Nurse Practitioner.

Allied Health – Occupational Therapist
FIXED TERM MATERNITY LEAVE COVER – PART TIME
GORH (Lorne and Apollo Bay) is currently seeking an AHPRA registered Occupational Therapist for our Allied Health Team whilst our current OT is on maternity leave. The position is currently for a fixed term of 12 months for 2-3 days per week.
The Occupational Therapist is responsible for the development, implementation and evaluation of the occupational therapy program at Great Ocean Road Health using best practice principles. This involves high quality clinical assessment, treatment and review of acute, residential and community clients and the delivery and implementation of care plans.

Fundraising and Communications Manager

We are seeking an enthusiastic, and motivated individual to join our Great Ocean Road Health, Support Services Catering Team at our Lorne Campus.
We are a client focused organisation and strive to provide nutritious meals to our Patients, Residents and Staff. The position is for a Dinner Cook – shifts commence at 3.30pm and finish at 7.00pm, every Friday and every second weekend. This position includes the preparation, delivery and collection of food to/from residents and patients and the cleaning of associated equipment, dishes and utensils.

- Ability to work in an organised, accurate, timely manner
- Ability to work with limited supervision
- Ability to work flexibly within tight time schedules

GORH, are seeking After Hours Coordinators to work at our Apollo Bay Hospital Campus. The After Hours Coordinator is responsible for coordinating the clinical care along with managing the Hospital after hours. The AHC is a leadership role that includes the delegation and supervision of other staff on the shift ensuring that patient care is of the highest standard.
The successful applicant will be a Registered Nurse with at least 5 years’ experience and will be on night and evening shifts whilst being the After Hours Coordinator for Aged Care and Urgent Care. Emergency Department and Advanced Life Support Education is highly desirable.
